Detergents
With the entry into force of Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 on detergents on 8 October 2005, the rules for placing detergents and surfactants intended for detergents on the market will be harmonized.
The Detergents Regulation applies directly to the following areas:
- Requirements for the aerobic biodegradability of surfactants in detergents
- Restrictions or bans on surfactants for reasons of biodegradability
- Additional labeling of detergents, including allergenic fragrances; and
- Information to be provided by manufacturers to the competent authorities of the Member States and medical personnel.
Based on the Detergents Regulation, there was a need to revise the Detergents and Cleaning Agents Act (WRMG) in Germany. The Detergents and Cleaning Agents Act regulates the manufacture, labeling and sale of detergents and cleaning agents in Germany. Section 10 of the WRMG regulates the obligation to notify the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) or the ECHA Poison Center Portal (UFI Notification/Poison Center Notification) of detergents and cleaning agents.
