ECHA Poison Center / UFI Notification
The ECHA Poison Center notification (UFI notification) is the product notification for dangerous mixtures to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and applies to producers, importers and downstream users who place mixtures on the market.
The legal basis for reporting products is regulated in
- Article 45 of the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008,
- § 16e of the German Chemicals Act and
- § 10 of the German Detergents and Cleaning Products Act.
Annex VIII of the CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 regulates the requirements for notifications to the ECHA. The notification serves to transmit information for emergency health response to the competent authorities of the Member States.
The requirements for the harmonised reporting include, among others:
- the unique product identifier (Unique Formula Identifier - UFI)
The UFI is a 16-digit alphanumeric code that must be indicated on the product label, packaging or, if applicable, in the safety data sheet. The UFI is used by the competent authority to respond to inquiries in medical emergencies based on the information provided there.
- the complete composition
The product notification must include the complete formulation based on the ingredients and the legally specified concentration ranges. Please note that the legally specified concentration ranges can be narrower than those specified, for example, in the safety data sheet.
- the toxicological information
Toxicological information for the mixture must be provided in the respective national language. This is usually given in Section 11 of the safety data sheet.
